Crime occurs in various neighborhoods throughout the United States; however, crime prevention and crime deterrence should be a priority within every neighborhood. As residents within towns, cities, and rural areas we tend to believe that crime does not occur in our own neighborhoods until it becomes reality. Small crimes can lead to larger crimes and it is up to us as residents, neighbors, and or community members to make a positive impact on reducing crime in our geographical area. I recently joined a group online that provides community notifications, events and crime reports and I was surprised to read about a car theft within my neighborhood. How could I be gullible to the reality of crime when I have two college degrees of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security and the several years of military experience? I have become unaware of any events within my neighborhood when I know and learned years ago to practice the value of never becoming complacent, especially as a Combat Soldier. Prayer, preparedness, vigilance, training, timing, reaction, location, offense, and defense often were the probability for survival. As a resident, neighbor and community member, I have to always be aware and to positively impact the community that I reside in through my own actions. What can I do individually to improve my community? If each of us positively impacts our community it will positively impact our neighborhoods, town/city, county, state and nation just like a domino effect. Have you ever noticed on the news when a crime occurs in a large city that usually not too many neighbors know the victims of a crime? Each of us should know our neighbors and join a neighborhood watch. I rarely open my door because I do not trust anyone but my husband will open the door without hesitation. My inability to trust others creates a negative impact on my community. I am not saying to trust every resident within my neighborhood; however, I can have a welcoming and friendly approach toward my neighbors with the knowledge that trust is earned. As I mentioned previously, my first act is joining the online neighborhood website that I was invited to which allows me to meet my neighbors. Although I purchased my home eight years ago, it is time for me to actively impact my community. I rarely spent time in my home until last year because of my work (two jobs), military operations, deployments, and hospitalizations. The second active role for me is to become an active member toward community policing. Community policing is a commitment between the neighborhood, police department, and government toward neighborhood crime prevention. Each of us should respect each other and dedicate ourselves toward creating a harmonious neighborhood. Respect begins with the person we see in the mirror and we share that respect to our neighbors, neighborhood, police officers, government officials, and every living thing that we meet and or interact with during our lifetime. Those who learn the value of respect will respect their own lives and will practice morals and values that contribute toward success within them and their community. Respect creates peace and peace creates trust and trust creates harmony and harmony creates communication and communication creates agreement and agreement creates positive charges! Through positive charges all reaction and interaction will reduce violence within our community and positive charges will spread to other communities! Thirdly, is for each of us to become dedicated toward problem-oriented policing within our communities. Any problem that exists within our community that hinders our actions toward community policing has to be tackled in order for community policing to succeed. For example, if we have a problem with theft within our local store, we have to observe the factors and evidence within the theft. What items are stolen? What time does it occur? What type of deterrence exist s to prevent the thefts? What types of security cameras are installed to deter and identify suspects? Are the suspects identified and are their names and photos released to the media through a crime stoppers program? These are just a few questions however within those same questions and additional questions require further review and analysis. If these individuals are stealing due to a drug problem, we have additional factors to review and analyze because we all know that drug use and the seller inflates crime, violence, and homicides. The law abiding citizen’s life is in jeopardy as a customer of a store, as a driver or pedestrian, and as a resident within their home. The recent media coverage of police brutality and killing of citizens of various ethnicities does not occur within all counties within the United States. Brutality toward minorities has existed for many centuries however there are numerous police departments that are dedicated toward diversity training and other programs. There are police departments increasing the number of minorities that are hired. The media has to increase their coverage of airing positive stories between police officers and minorities. Each decade the relationships between the police and citizens are improving and it is necessary for the respect to begin with each of us. Respect is necessary to build trust among each other. In order for all communities to build trust within the community members and the police will require several initiatives to build trust among each other. Community activities and events that show that the police exist to help keep communities safe and in order are one important move with a get to know each other community event filled with balloons, flyers, games, snacks and introductions. Police officers visiting the schools to introduce the police to provide information, and the opportunity to become a police officer one day are a tremendous building of trust. Adding concerts and musical showcase from students within the local schools will help to promote the strengthening of trust within young children and the police. We all have to view our community/neighborhood as royalty (royalty is cherished and never neglected or destroyed) and if your community/neighborhood does not meet the characteristic of royalty, it is up to each of us to find ways to improve our community into royalty. Every life is precious and each of our life should experience a life of royalty and a home and community that exist through royalty. All of our actions should promote self-love, love of all living things, trust, integrity, partnership within community and problem-oriented policing. Remember: Money does not save a life but love, trust and integrity will help save a life! Police departments that do not have the funding for community policing, there are various grants and funding for community policing. Information can be found under the following website: http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/ Problem oriented policing information can be found under the following website: http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/Default.asp?Item=2559 Blessings to all from Joan Ellen Gandy |
As the New Year approaches it is time to accept and give love to yourself first in order to love others just because we are all God's creation!!!
Don't repeat patterns or make choices that are destructive. Destructive patterns of behavior includes just existing without self motivation.
Regardless of how you feel about yourself, YOU matter!!!! Regardless on how society portrays you on the news or how systemic/hidden/reverse racism kills and eats away inside, YOU matter!!!!!
We are ALL created & destined by GOD and so YOU matter!!!! Since YOU matter love ALL of GOD's creations however start with yourself through self-love, self-improvement and self-evaluation!! Actively seek to improve your life through setting goals and achieving each one toward success!!! Yes, YOU!!!!!
As YOU improve your life, utilize your talents to improve ALL of GOD's creations by improving your home, town, city, county, state, country, continent, and universe!!!! It begins with each of us!!!!!!!
Reverse this if you hate people based on their race, nationality, color, creed, sex, gender, sexual preference, religion and or lack of religion you can not love yourself!!!! Internal love projects external love just as internal hate projects external hate!!!
I am bless to see beyond color and when I was on a jury, I was reminded that I was the only black on the jury and I did not realize it until it was mentioned.
For those who feel I am simplifying this cancerous growth called racism in every form, I will tell you this......I remember going to the beauty shop in the early 1970s and Moffett Field had the blacks in one small corner of the beauty shop in the back with a divider (my mother could have sat in the front because she was lighter or the same complexion) or when my parents sent me to a Christian School in the 5th grade and the teacher did not assign me the required text books that all the other students had and my father found out and resolved it by talking to those who were behind his daughter not receiving the text books.
I was told throughout the years I speak proper or act different from various races, depending on my hairstyle I have experience people who are misguided and misinformed and somehow believe I am not a human being. I am just me the real thing and I can never be defined by the media, television, movies, songs, or the national or local news. Never did I hate anyone based on my experiences. It would destroy me and my children.
My father spent 23 years in the Navy working hard to achieve E-8 and how many memories I have of my dad studying at night, attending college, working two jobs, and through all of his experience he always project love!!! Generations of my family on my father's side struggled through heartbreak, racism, slavery and kept that internal love and I carry that to my sons (unfortunately my husbands their fathers were not like my dad). Yes, I taught my sons to always be respectful and have manners too and never get in trouble with the law, not be quick to anger, and be successful human beings!!!!
Why is violence pervasive in the black community with black on black crime? Self-hate!
The same self-hate that drives violence throughout this Earth!
Why can't some of us see beyond color and decide to kill rather than save a life? Self-hate!
Why can't some of us see beyond a different religion? Self-hate!
Why can't some of us see beyond gender? Self-hate!
Please remove the self-hate and love thyself!!!!!
We are all human beings and to love your fellow human being starts by loving yourself!!!!!
Dear Lord we pray for love, peace and understanding now and forever to touch every heart on this Earth!!!

For those who look at doors due to the fear of rejection and never take that chance to attempt to open that door, you are stagnated and you are inactive. Additionally, for those who attempt to open every door that they see will become overwhelmed. All of those doors that you opened look wonderful but in reality you did not enter inside those doors to receive gifts and opportunities. These types of people are incomplete. Visually, think of yourself as a hiring manager and you are looking forward to the applicant arriving for the interview. This particular applicant has a resume that reflects enormous amount of experiences, education, and skills. Once the applicant arrives for the interview and you ask a line of questioning and the applicant is unable to answer any questions, this applicant represents an incomplete person.
This website is about you and me! The fear of a door will not and cannot destroy who we are and what we desire to achieve in this short life! Focus on your strengths and improve your weaknesses. It is time to start opening that door toward success! For success will arrive to people who continue to strive toward success. When you knock on a door and rejection occurs it is a gift toward your upcoming success! They did not want you and you did not need them to take you on this journey toward success! No matter how many doors you knock on, eventually one of those doors will welcome you toward your journey to success! Don’t ever give up! Don’t ever stop trying! Don’t ever stop improving! People who are in their 90s continue to improve their lives! Every breath that you take is your time to strive and achieve success. It is called motivation! Utilize those tools to motivate and drive you and this website is designed to assist toward that empowerment of becoming a better person! Success requires improving your mental, emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual self! Yes, we will fear the door but that door does not symbolize our package of mental, emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual self! When that door opens, we will enter it and give it the best by actively taking that chance and completely accomplishing the mission of our own empowerment!
Blessings and Love,
Joan
The Grand Opening
There is no greater joy than to be able to change a life! Can you think of what you have done to improve a person's life? Have you wished that someone came to your rescue when you needed help?
We are all human beings with a mind, body, and spirit. Everything that we do in our life should be focused on improving our mind, body, and spirit. I always ask myself this question, "will this action benefit me or will this action benefit others?" Why should we ever in our life do anything to cause another person's pain, hurt, injury, or fear?
In Ephesians Bible states:
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”(Ephesians 4:32, NIV).
What if we are carrying a heavy load of pain and hurt from family members, friends, spouses, and partners? Carrying a heavy load around is dangerous to our mind, body, and spirit! Our minds return back to the memory of the pain that was inflicted on us. Our body hurts and our heart is heavy from the pain that was inflicted on us. Our spirit is damaged and broken and we feel so alone!
Now I am changing this from us to you because the act of forgiveness is a singular act of one person, YOU! Remove all of those heavy burdens that are weighing you down, right now! Lay all of those burdens and all of those bricks to God! He is right there and He knows all and everything that has happened to you and your future!
Matthew in the Bible states:
“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you”(Matthew 6:14, NIV).
When you forgive others each of those burdens and bricks are taken off of your mind, body, and spirit! You will begin to feel released and you don't need the other person or persons who hurt you to accept that you forgive them! Those who don't accept forgiveness will have a heavier burden to bear!
Now remember, you have forgiven those who hurt you and the burdens and bricks are removed from your mind, body, and spirit. Where did those burdens and bricks go? Since you have forgiven those your burdens and bricks are given to God so that you do not have to worry about it!
In the book of Psalm in the Bible, it confirms the bricks and burdens are no longer your burden!
“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken”(Psalm 55:22, NIV).
They are no longer your care! Tell yourself that these burdens are no longer mines and I have cast those cares on the Lord!
Here comes your transformation to the realization:
All them days your body was tired and week, God said He will make sure you have your rest with your mind at ease, body relaxed, and your spirit refreshed!
Matthew in the Bible eases our mind, body, and spirit:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”(Matthew 11:28, NIV).
Oh, my goodness! This is a wonderful blessing to know that no one can hurt us to the point that we are burdened! Lay those burdens down! Praise God, yes lay those burdens down!
Share your experiences!
Praying for each of you who are beautiful inside and out and have your burdens and bricks relieved! Amen!
Love and Blessings!

God be the glory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Within my Library of Congress anthology series are a few short stories. In my opinion, short stories allows the reader to enjoy a shorter form of literary work when they lack the time to enjoy a longer version of literary art.
Music, words of poetry, words of non-fiction and fictional work, phrases, quotes, and blogs display art to me. In addition, art is the celebration of life and even through the storms of life we should reach for art to heal our heart and or find inner peace.
My journey and focus is different today with my loving husband Kennedy Gandy, our daughter Kennedy, and our sons Charles and Joshua and Joshua's wife Adi and their daughter Joanna our beautiful granddaughter! We all have a gift that we are blessed with and have an obligation to share it to the world. When people tell you about the gift you have that is another opportunity for you to share that gift or gifts with others. Part of our life should include sharing our gifts and talent with others! If you don't know by now, I am a half full cup type of woman, I enter this new journey of sharing with positive charges.
This website is to provide joy during sadness and strength during weakness. If you are unheard, this website will allow others to hear you and know that you are important! If you are searching for a writer and artist of different fields such as poetry, catch phrases, motivational words, short stories, novels, screen writing, and lyrics this is the website for you with negotiable prices. If you are searching for a short movie or documentary we are available to negotiate.
Are you ready to begin the journey of the art of Gandy? Enjoy the meal!
Blessings and love,
